"The Month of Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was sent down, which is a guide for people and contains clear evidence of the right path and distinguishing between right and wrong, halal and haram. Therefore, those of you who understand the month of Ramadan should fast this month..." (Baqara Surah - 185)

Yes, the Month of Ramadan is for humanity. It is the month in which the divine word, which contains clear information distinguishing halal and haram, right and wrong, our life motto, the All-Wise Dhikr, was sent down...

The month that is the time frame for fasting, which is one of the most beautiful styles of purifying the soul and bringing it to clarity.

It is the month of mercy, blessing and abundance. Badr victory is in this month. He has the conquest of Mecca. It has been the scene of many more conquests throughout history. Therefore, it is not far from the mind that Ramadan is remembered as the month of conquests and sustenance, as well as the month of worship, goodness and benevolence.

He said that the Messenger of Allah said; "Shame on the person who reaches the month of Ramadan, spends this month and cannot reach forgiveness!"(1) The month in which he both warns us and gives good news.

"There is a door in heaven. It is called 'Reyyan'. Fasting people will enter through this door on the Day of Judgment."(2)

"There are two moments of joy for the person who fasts: First The moment of joy is the moment of iftar. The second moment of joy is the moment when a person meets his Lord.” The month in which he adds new good news to this good news with his hadiths… (3)

This beautiful month, this month of prosperity and abundance, this month of victory and help; "Welcome! You have brought joy! May our Lord bring you many new blessings, blessings and blessings!" We welcome it by saying.

This month is a month in which several acts of worship are experienced together and the heart is more sensitive to spiritual pleasures. However, when "Ramadan" is mentioned, the first worship that comes to mind is fasting.

Ramadan fasting was made obligatory on the 10th day of the month of Shaban, before the Battle of Badr in the second year of the Hegira.

The word for fasting in Islamic terminology is "savm". Savm, as a word; It means "to restrain the soul, to control it". It is also reported that it means "to be patient". The meaning of patience is a meaning that is integrated with the previous ones in a way.

The fiqh meaning of fasting is as follows: "From the dawn of dawn until the sun sets, it means that a person controls his soul for the sake of Allah and prevents him from things that will break the fast."

Fasting has the ability to control the soul, appetites and lust. The wisdom of feeling the situation of the needy is clear. In it, human beings need even a morsel of food or a sip of drink; A person cannot do without these, regardless of his power and power, rank and position; his helplessness; His need for Allah, the Provider; This truth is imprinted on the mind.

Thanks to fasting, people reduce their animal emotions and ambitions; It re-sifts the desires and needs of the soul; It revitalizes spiritual feelings and heart sensitivity; It gives a brand new vitality and vitality to your life with good qualities and prayers. It accustoms one's soul to the challenge, experiences the consciousness of taking over the reins completely, and tastes the pleasure of the sacrifice made for the sake of Allah.

The difference of fasting is emphasized in a sacred hadith as follows:

“Every good deed of a human being is rewarded exponentially. Good deeds are rewarded tenfold to seven hundredfold.

But fasting is different. It belongs to me, it belongs to him. I will determine and give his reward, because the fasting believer leaves his lust, his appetite, and his food for Me.

There are two moments of joy for the fasting person: The moment of joy when he finishes his fast and the moment of joy when he meets his Lord.

The smell in the mouth of a fasting person due to fasting is more than the smell of musk in the sight of Allah. It is beautiful.”(4)

When a fasting believer endures poverty and deprivation, it is not because he cannot find food and drink, but because he prefers the consent of his Lord to the desires of his soul; It is knowing, it is conscious. Thus, the fasting person will feel the sublimity of using the will given by Allah in the direction He commands, and will display an example of struggle against his own self.

A believer who, by obeying the command of his Creator, restrains his soul for a certain period of time, keeps him away from legitimate blessings, and has the fortitude to endure poverty for the sake of his Lord, will now learn to restrain his other ambitions, will not covet what is forbidden or the property of others, will learn to share what he has with others within a legitimate framework, will feel the pleasure that comes from helping the needy, will take his place in the ranks desired by the Most Merciful.

As a matter of fact, as we enter the spiritual atmosphere of the month of Ramadan and progress, the hearts become more purified, the feelings of doing good, being a good cause, self-sacrifice are revived, and the will to stay away from evil is strengthened, which is a fact of life witnessed by every prudent person.

Imam Mâwardî (rh.a.) narrates: To Yusuf (peace be upon him); “You are in charge of the treasures of the earth, yet you make yourself suffer from hunger?” is asked.

“I am afraid of feeding myself and forgetting the hungry when I am full.” he answers.(5)

No matter how wealthy a person is, no matter how many employees he has under his command and service, no matter how arrogant he is, no matter how much his arrogance and pride take over the mountains, in the end, this is what he is and he is helpless. It is what hunger or pain makes you suffer, disease makes you wither, death takes away. All that remains are the bittersweet memories of what they did. Most of them are forgotten after a while. However, there is someone who never forgets anything, and everything that has been done, whether good or bad, comes before a person for accounting...

One must shape his life with this consciousness and know where he comes from and where he is going.

* *

We pray that the spiritual atmosphere that surrounds our hearts in the month of Ramadan will cover our entire lives, and that the new Ramadan will be the spring of brand new flowers and fruits. We do. Sunan-i Tirmidhi (3/ 138).

(4) The hadith is a hadith that is against muttafakun. See: Sahih-i Buhârî, Savm (9/ 29), Sahih-i Müslim, Siyam ( 2/ 807).
